Anyone who attends conferences, special events, or trade shows has seen the display graphics commonly used to promote products and services. These are sometimes large booths and sometimes tabletop or wall-mounted displays.

You’ve probably noticed that some of these displays are eye catching and others look like they were put together without much thought. It can be expensive to create a big display booth with lots of graphics. But it can also be done at a reasonable cost, if you know how to use your existing resources to best advantage.

Have you recently produced an attractive brochure or report? If so, you probably put a lot of effort into the writing and the graphics, so why not get more out of it? Now you can adapt your work to a great-looking display.

If you've been thinking about revising your printed materials, this could be a great opportunity to do them and a display, too. It can be much more cost-effective to do these together, because you can reuse many of the same elements.

Because of the sophistication of current computers and page layout software, it’s usually possible to repurpose sections of your printed piece for displays. We recently did this for a nonprofit client, O4AD, and you can see the result by clicking here.

Designers can usually adapt their existing design files for a larger size. Generally, if you know what you want and there is existing material available to resize and adapt, the cost can be quite reasonable.
Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Review the printed pieces to determine the key content that will go on the display. Remember that copy needs to be brief and large in order to work on the display. Think billboard. Look at the images you used, too. Photos are important, and they need to be of good quality in order to enlarge to display size. Web resolution won’t do it.

2. If you already have a display unit such as a tabletop display, measure carefully for the size of display graphics panels needed. If you don’t have a display, you will need to have this lined up for sizing. We can help you with reasonably-priced displays. Remember, you can use your display again and again, so the cost over time will be even more reasonable.

3. Often, the designer may just need to copy and paste existing material, resize images and text, and tweak the design. The finished page layout can be exported as a print quality PDF ready for printing on large format graphics printers.

4. Finally, produce the graphics panels. This is usually done by companies offering large format prints. Panels can be laminated for protection and attached to your display with Velcro.

In the end, you have a professional-looking display that gets attention. It also extends your marketing and outreach efforts. Because it leverages the design style in the print materials, it helps to make your message more memorable, and it keeps your costs down.
